Age: 27
Kiting: 3 years
Education: BA Colorado College(with an eye towards dental school one day)
Profession: surf/kitesurf instructor, professional kiter
Other sports: surfing, rock climbing, hiking
Nalani on why she likes kiting: "I've always loved and done many sports, but none have captured me the way kiting did. It's very challenging to learn, so with each step of progression you feel like you have come so far. It's self-sufficient; no need for a boat, other people, or even waves. It's just you on the water. It’s exciting to be a part of a new sport that is constantly evolving. Proficiency in kiting relies more on technique and style rather than strength, and women are re-defining the boundaries of tricks and moves just like the men."
Contest experience:
Maui Kite Festival (1st contest): 1st place, amateur div. / 2nd place, pro div.
Rotto Wave Contest (Australia): 3rd place women's pro div.
King of the Bay (San Francisco): 4th place women's pro div.
